In the end, we all had a long day reading up on the reported cases—the drugs, the effects of the stuff the doctor gave us, and I think each one of us was nervous.

My undercover name was Jake. Sam was Rudy, which for some reason he hated, and as we swallowed our doctor-prescribed beta-blockers and other pills with about a gallon of water each, I kept needing to pee.

I was nervous. We got decked out, duded up, and drove off to Kitty's Korner at six o'clock in an unmarked, but heavily loaded SUV.

Three units watched us from other nearby vehicles, as well as the neighbor's bedroom. They had apparently been only too happy to help bring down Clora-Jo and her not-so-happy hookers.

We all walked into the brothel and I was immediately struck by the beaten-down demeanor of the hookers on hand.

It was a surreal moment when we had to select our intended girls. I sort of… couldn't believe we were really here.

Nicholas, however, took control and told a jumpy Clora-Jo that we were here to party and not just have sex. "We need a drink. I gotta prove to my fiancée that we're boozin' it up. Betty-Sue is expectin' us to drink."

Clora-Jo gave him a fake smile.

"Why, honey-bun, of course I'll get you drinks."

She took our orders and I watched her fix them behind the bar. She kept gazing up to one corner. I imagined a secret camera might be there. This was supposed to be a stag party but it had all the ambience of an execution.

When she brought the glasses over, we took hold of them and one sip told me there was something other than vodka and tonic in mine. I watched Nicholas tasting his and caught his gaze. He thought so, too.

"I gotta get a pic of the guys. Hey, beautiful," Sam asked one of the hookers, "You mind takin' a photo of me an' mah boys?"

He pulled his cell phone out and she complied.

We whooped it up, pretended we were tying one on, took the pills they were handing over, and laughed a lot. Sam pretended to carelessly leave his phone on a coffee table. It was no accident. It was recording everything, but if anyone looked at it, the phone wouldn't show that it was a receiver.

The girls laughed along with us. Oh, yeah, we were havin' a gay ol' time, except that I was starting to feel a little dizzy. Or something.

And the room began to swirl.

What the fuck?

Out of an unseen door, a figure walked toward me and I almost peed my pants. What the fuck was happening to me?

Bocephus walked toward us.

"Good evening, gentleman," he said, and lifted up the machine. I watched him turn it on and hoped to God I'd be able to hold my breath as my feet began to slide from under me. The word help was on my tongue, his laughter rattling in my brain…
